This is the third time I have seen the APC tour in the UK - and they just get better and tighter each time. Auf Der Maur were excellent - powering through some feedback problems and throwing diva stances all around. I have got some of the demo's for her album and knew a couple of the songs beforehand - they come over so much heavier live, just fantastic- and James made an appearance to play "Skin Receiver"
APC started with 'Vanishing', which I think is a little unusual for the start - it stopped the whole crowd dead as everyone simply listened, completely taken in. The band started playing 'Pet' and everyone went wild. Maynard was twirling and shaking on his platform, Josh pounded the drums and Jeordie kicked his way around the corner of the stage, posing and stomping - he looked a little bored through most of it, although it is undisputable that he quite literally *owns* the left hand side of the stage during the shows - the man has such amazing stage presence!
For around 90 minutes, the crowd were treated to some of the most energetic, poetic, melodic and mesmerising performances, from individuals, and as a band. Maynard was defintiely much more relaxed than at previous shows - there was the usual nod towards aggression, but it felt more passionate than angry to watch.
Typically we were treated to James' jokes, which Maynard decided would prove once and for all that APC were not a funny band (I can't exactly remember it, but it made me laugh). Somewhere during the set, Jeordie treated us all to a rendition of "Fred's Got Slacks" which got plenty of applause and laughter. The show finished with "Judith" which is such an amazing song, if a little predictable to end on. All in all, it was a usual, solid APC performance which just confirmed yet again why they are my favourite band.
After last night, I have to say I'd love to see them play a UK festival in front of thousands - they give so much energy to the crowd, it would be amazing.
