Album Review: Goon Moon - Licker's Last Leg
by Sarah Linn

This is not a name-dropping review, but there’s going to be a lot of name-dropping happening here because Goon Moon’s latest release, Licker’s Last Leg, is peppered with a slew artists and production people. The names aren’t really what is important, (but it helps to work with super-talented people when making a record) it’s the music.

So, let’s get on with it.

Comprised of Jordie White (aka Twiggy Ramirez-Marilyn Manson, now with Nine Inch Nails) and Chris Goss, (aka Chris Goth aka the “Godfather of Desert Rock” of Queens of the Stone Age fame) the duo’s debut release with Mike Patton’s Ipecac Records is something close to genius. Licker’s Last Leg is musically tight and rocks out, and features Josh Homme, Zach Hill (Hella) and Josh Freese (a cat who’s played keyboards with everyone from Dr. Dre to Green Day). Interwoven with eerie sounds and interesting harmonies, Licker’s Last Leg is a departure from the sound of their first record I Got a Brand New Egg Layin’ Machine; a sound that was more experimental, akin to Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention.

The music these fellas are making now? In a nutshell, it’s simply really cool rock ‘n’ roll.
