NEWS ARCHIVES - OCTOBER 2003

October 31, 2003

A review from tonight's tour opener in San Antonio, TX is now up on the Reviews page. To elaborate a bit on the review's rather sketchy description of the costumes worn by the band, Jeordie came out sporting the Mechanical Animals era Twiggy look, James was Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Billy was a "drunken gay sailor" as stated by Maynard, and Josh appeared to have adopted the Devo look (my view of him was somewhat obstructed, so I'm not sure on that one). As stated in the review, Maynard was Shakes the Clown. What the review also doesn't mention is the jam that took place at the end of the show, continuing even through the house lights coming on (and house music, which Jeordie demanded be turned off) and the crew was tearing down the stage. Highlight: Metallica's "Master of Puppets", with Jeordie on guitar and vocals, Billy on bass and Josh on drums. All in all, another amazing effort on the part of A Perfect Circle!

With A Perfect Circle's tour gearing up again in San Antonio, Texas this Friday, Halloween night, Jeordie has spoken to San Antonio's Express-News regarding his transition from Marilyn Manson's Twiggy to A Perfect Circle's Jeordie White. The interview has been posted on the Press page and can be read by clicking here.

A new interview from German magazine Orkus has been translated by New Model No. 15 and is the latest addition to the Press page and two new photos have been added to the Live gallery. Also, just a reminder that A Perfect Circle will be featured on Rockline tonight starting at 8:30 p.m. Pacific Time. For those who don't get Rockline in their neck of the woods, you can listen on line by going to wrif.com.

A new tour date has shown up on the APC official site’s tour schedule. The band will be performing on December 8th in South Bend, Indiana at the Morris Performing Arts Center. In the meantime, the December 13th date in Kansas City has disappeared, although it was still listed in the mailing that went out yesterday to those who are signed up on the mailing list. Go figure. If I hear anything further on the status of this date, I’ll be sure to post it.

An interview with Jeordie from today's online edition of Billboard Magazine has been added to the Press page.

October 21, 2003

A Perfect Circle will appear on the syndicated radio program Rockline on October 27th between 8:30 and 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time. You can phone in with questions during the broadcast at 1-800-344-7625. Not sure which members will be interviewed, but I thought I'd let everyone know just the same. For a list of radio stations carrying Rockline, go to www.rocklineradio.com.

Another new show to report on APC's itinerary. According to this location, the band will be playing the Hara Arena in Dayton, OH on November 28. Tickets go on sale on October 25, presumably through Ticketmaster. And to follow up on the discrepancy regarding A Perfect Circle's Wisconsin appearance, Ticketmaster has now updated its site to confirm that the band will be playing the Milwaukee Theater on November 30 after all. The date is also listed on the Milwaukee Theater's website.

A new photo has been added to the Candid gallery, taken from the photo gallery on the enhanced version of the Desert Sessions 9&10 CD. There is also a short video included with this CD which shows more footage of Jeordie at Rancho de la Luna, where the writing and recording of this latest Desert Sessions installment was done over a period of a eight days back in February 2003. The enhanced version is available through www.101cd.com.

Another discrepancy has surfaced regarding APC's tour schedule. Although the official website lists them as playing at the Milwaukee Theater in Milwaukee, WI on November 30, Ticketmaster has now listed the November 30th show as taking place at the Alliant Energy Center (f/n/a Dane County Coliseum) in Madison. Just a heads up for anyone planning on seeing the band in Wisconsin.

A lot of stuff today...

The EP that Jeordie produced for Orange County-based March is now available online in mp3 format at this location. The EP will also be available at their October 22nd show at the Anaheim, CA House of Blues and on the band's official website when it is revamped soon. You can request a CD by sending an email to paul@marchtheband.com. [Thanks to Kaeden a/k/a Mastin Kipp]

Another string of tour dates has been confirmed as follows:

November 30 • Milwaukee Theatre • Milwaukee, WI
December 2 • Stephans Auditorium • Ames, IA
December 4 • Fargo Civic Memorial Auditorium • Fargo, ND
December 5 • Xcel Energy Center • St. Paul, MN
December 6 • US Cellular Center • Cedar Rapids, IA
December 9 • Deltaplex • Grand Rapids, MI
December 11 • Shrine Mosque • Springfield, MO
December 12 • Pershing Auditorium • Lincoln, NE
December 13 • Municipal Auditorium • Kansas City, MO

Although APC's official site lists the December 9 Grand Rapids date as being in Iowa, this must be a typo as I have found that the Deltaplex is in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I don't think there even is a Grand Rapids in Iowa.

According to an article at mtv.com, A Perfect Circle are in the process of choosing between "Blue" and "The Outsider" for the next single, with Jeordie opting for the latter. "It's the one track that sticks out and seems really strong to me," he said. "I think it's a high point in the record because it's very aggressive and it's surrounded by some more moody material, which makes that song even better." It's also been revealed that Jeordie intervened when Maynard insisted on making changes to the material which Billy had previously written for the album. "I tried to mediate some of the differences and play the middle man since I was not as close to the songs as they were," White said. "Billy felt married to the way the songs were, so he took offense at being asked to change them. But that's the whole point of the writing relationship. If everyone agreed on everything it would probably come out pretty boring."

Jeordie also talks a little bit about the video which accompanies "Weak and Powerless" and those of you confused as to the meaning of the video will find yourself in good company. "I have absolutely no idea what it means," he said. "There's some girl in a forest throwing snakes into a hole. I'm as confused as you are. I'm just glad I didn't have to be involved. Press photos and videos can be a little silly because you see yourself posing in pictures and you start to believe your own hype. I like not being in the videos and letting the music speak for itself. No one makes live videos anyway. You're just pretending to play your instruments, so it's all a big hoax that I'd rather not be a part of."

The St. Paul, MN show, originally listed on APC's official website for December 10 and then subsequently removed, is now confirmed to be taking place on December 5 at the Xcel Energy Center. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. at all Ticketmaster outlets, with a presale through radio station 93X starting on Friday, October 10th. Go to their website for details.

A Perfect Circle have pulled out of performing at Australia's Big Day Out in January according to the festival's official website. It is, however, looking more likely that the band will undertake a tour of their own in lieu of appearing at BDO. Pay no attention to some rather colorful rumors circulating at the moment regarding the reasoning behind the cancellation; it appears that a shift in the scheduling, resulting in an undesirable time slot for the band, is the real culprit here. Thanks to Skwerl at aperfectcircle.net for getting to the bottom of this.

A review of the London Astoria show has been added to the Reviews page.

October 6, 2003

Go to deadohiosky.net for some new audio clips of an impromtu jam which took place at the end of A Perfect Circle’s Astoria gig on October 2nd. The jam features Jeordie (on guitar and vocals), Billy (on drums) and James playing snippets of songs from artists such as Metallica, the White Stripes, Motley Crue and Marilyn Manson.

A new photo has been added to the Group/Promo gallery, a slight variation of the black and white one that has been making the rounds of late. [Thanks to New Model No. 15]
